A Visit to Heidelberg Engineering: SPIE Student Chapter Takes a Look Behind the Scenes

Last Wednesday, September 2, the SPIE Student Chapter in Lübeck had the special opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at one of the leading companies in the field of biomedical optics, particularly ophthalmology. Our group, consisting of students in bachelor's and master's programs as well as doctoral candidates, was accompanied on this field trip by our chapter advisor, Dr. Norbert Linz, and the managing director of the Medical Laser Center Lübeck, Dr. Ralf Brinkmann.
Heidelberg Engineering opened its doors to us at its Lübeck facility and provided us with fascinating insights into all areas of the company, from development to production, as well as into the work of Visotec, an MLL spin-off affiliated with Heidelberg Engineering that develops innovative remote OCT systems. A particular highlight of the day was the hands-on demonstration of the Heidelberg Anterion, which all participants had the opportunity to explore and try out in practice with great interest.

Heidelberg Engineering is not only a major global player in imaging and data technologies for optimizing ophthalmic solutions, but also an important industrial company located in the immediate vicinity of the University of Lübeck's Hanse Innovation Campus. We are very pleased that, through a long-standing partner of the Institute for Biomedical Optics and the Lübeck Medical Laser Center, we were able to gain such in-depth insights into internal processes and potential career paths for biophotonics graduates.

We would like to thank you for the extremely informative day and look forward to continuing our constructive, long-term collaboration.
