AG Brinkmann

In my research groups at the BMO and at the Medical Laser Center Lübeck (MLL) we are particularly dedicated to therapeutic laser applications with current focus on ophthalmology and minimally invasive surgery, especially neurosurgery and urology.

The goal of the therapy-relevant projects is to make laser applications easier for the physician, safer for the patient and overall more reproducible. In doing so, we develop innovative and smart, automatically controlled laser applications. Real-time measurement of relevant parameters can be used for diagnostics and therapy control, summarized under the keyword theragnostics.

We also use photoacoustic techniques for non-contact tissue diagnostics, temperature measurement and respiratory gas analysis.

Many projects are carried out in cooperation with the Medical Laser Center Lübeck, clinics and business partners in order to incorporate industry-relevant and medical aspects into research and development as early as possible. Translational, multidisciplinary research has been gaining in importance for more than 40 years now.
