New project: MPMHISTO

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the European Social Fund are funding the outstanding research achievements for the rapid and user-friendly histological examination of tissue samples with a highly endowed EXIST research transfer at the Medical Laser Center Lübeck.

The examination is particularly crucial during critical operations to remove life-threatening cancer tumors in order to determine whether the tumor has been completely removed or whether further surgery is required. Fundamental research on this topic was previously carried out at the Institute of Biomedical Optics at the University of Lübeck. The project aims to further develop the powerful laboratory setup into a reliable technology demonstrator for clinical use. Diagnosis within minutes not only improves patient well-being, but also saves considerable costs in the healthcare system.
